OF THE SILVER COMPANY, PROTECTOR OF THE ETERNAL STAIR OF THE ZIGGURAT ESOTERNIUM, SON OF THE BLACK HEART OF THURMECIA, RYGHÄR HIGHWIND!“
Tobi – RYGHÄR HIGHWIND
Album: Thurmecia Eternal
Genre: Epic/Heavy Metal
Label: Rafchild Records
Release: 23.09.2021 (CD) ; Vinyl version date tba.
Hello RYGHÄR HIGHWIND from Ryghär. My name is Tobi. I run a Facebook page and a webblog. On this page I post reviews of current albums, interviews, band presentations and reports about concerts that I visit with my wheelchair. On the one hand, to tell other wheelchair users how the venue is equipped in terms of accessibility and on the other hand, how to best proceed to get tickets, which is usually not possible with conventional ticket portals.
In the future I will also write about hygiene measures, as this is important for me as a high-risk patient and for my readers too. Of course, I also write about the bands‘ performance. Today I have a few questions for you about your new Album „Thurmecia Eternal“.
First of all, I want to ask you, how are you and your Bandmates doing right now?
Hails and well met TOBIAS, thanks for asking about us, we have all had whirlwind years between the ups of putting out some of the best albums of our careers as musicians and watching other aspects crumble in the face of this post apocalyptic dredge heap.
Overall spirits in the silver company camp are generally positive and the drinking and drugging makes up for the rest, how are you friend?
And what´s really important for me: Some write your Bandname like „Ryghär“ and some „Ryghar“. Which one ist he name that counts?
It is my name given to me by might and right (no matter how useless angrymetalguy says my umlaut may be)
You describe your Music as „Barbaric Heavy Metal from the Wasteland of Texas“. Tell me more! 😉 What makes Ryghär barbaric?
What makes our metal barbaric? We are fucking barbarians, make the square and any of my best men will show yours, barbarians scraping by in the hot wind scorched cimmerian hills of Texas, are skin is tough and our will like that of sun baked steel, test it at your own peril, also the best tacos in the world and we are prepared to fight about it.
What can we expect from your third Album „Thurmecia Eternal“?
Thurmecia eternal is the first part of a three album story arc, it creates the setting and initial steps into a story older than time that spans countless worlds
Could you say something to each Song on your upcoming Album to describe it form y followers?
A Castle, a Still Lake, a Forest, And a Valley Deep
While taking lessons from Ron jarzombek I wrote this melody to accompany what was a pretty simple sweep excercise, he thought it was neat, and that was probably the only time I impressed papa Ron, what a Texas metal legend.
Cair Vasturhaf: A Flaming Sunset on the Parapets of the King of the Western Sea
Gene Hoglans drumming especially the heavy steady rumble of his work for “go into the water” was the basis of what inspired me to write this after two bottles of wine during the shelter in place, also the final solo in the song is OLOF WIKSTRAND of enforcer but he says I placed it two beats off, I blame the third bottle on that, he’s a great player and cool guy, thanks olof
A Desperate Plan on the Field of Battle
Had to flex on these manowarriors and show how a battle hymn is written, no songs about standing in line at a stadium for a “heavy metal” concert your parents dropped you off at in their minivan here, just actual fucking war
We Make for the Deeping Pass
SKULLSÜCK wrote this beatiful piece on his own, we find his writing and playing to be one of the most unique and powerful elements for connecting the heavy riffing to the ambience and lore, and this is a top tier example
A Baleful Wind Cries Above the Ziggurat Esoternium
I wrote most of a baleful wind after some more wine and listening to a shit load of van halen (mainly hang em high and ain’t talking bout love) and he lyrics were inspired by my work with hermetic systems and western ceremonial magick (watch out Christian parents!!!)
Temple of the Crystal Spire
Temple of the Crystal Spire is one hundred percent our friend and mentor Jeff Black of ENCLOAKED and Gatekeeper fame, he blessed me early on with this golden bridge to side b and it was one of the most inspiring and wonderful votes of confidence from a friend and musician I admire, I truly treasure this gift of his music and am honored to have it adorn this album, listen to the soundscape and somber mood it evokes!!!
Hammers in the Halls of the Deep
Hammers was to remind you we are the heaviest fucking band in the entire fucking world, also for dwarven kings to never betray us or break sacred treaties, also it’s fun to yell shit together
The Witching Blade
The Witching Blade is supposed to be 8 and this seems to be out of order most places this was partially inspired by the Witcher and imagined taking the head of the warlock with the cursed spell eating sword he sent us on a suicide mission to find, do not cross us or the edge of the dagger you try to plunge in our backs will find your own throat.
In a Land Where the Sun Never Sleeps
In a land where the sun never sleeps is about the Lich King of the land where the sun never sleeps, and our endless quest to find him and his sleeping city of gold he resides in his castle where day never ends for he fears the Faustian pacts he made with the 12 zodiac epochrophants will be called due. Features my great friend Joey Vera on lead guitar and he dedicated his blistering performance to his late father and best friend of whom he took his name.
Are you nervous about the 23.09.2021? The Day of your Debut!
Honestly not nervousness, relief! We’ve been sitting on about half of the next album and now we can get to work and let our amazing labels (Rafchild and wrought records) do what they do best!
A favorite track of mine is „A Baleful Wind Cries Above the Ziggurat Esoternium“ and „Hammers in the Halls of the Deep“! Do you have a song that you particularly like on „Another Dimension“? – i meant „Thurmecia Eternal“ of course, sorry, Lord Commander!
I’m not sure what another dimension is but if that was a typo and you meant this album I personally loved cair vasturhaf and in a land but all of them were special to me to tell the story
What is it about the „Silver Company“?
The silver company is the mightiest band of warriors to ever stalk the paths of the multiverse, originally the band consisted of us(we are now warchiefs) but the silver company has many members across many worlds this one included HAILS!!!!!! ??
How are your plans for the near future of Ryghar?
As I said the second album is far underway in the writing phase we have begun recording our tracks and are excited to announce some things when the winds portend it is time
How did you as deal with the restrictions in the meantime? How much does it restricted you in your working life? I hope you and your Family + a Friends are healthy!
We have lost many loved ones to this plague as I’m sure the readers have, please be safe for you and those who can’t survive this disease, no need to go looking for death it finds us all one day, rip Chris
Is Heavy Metal and the Subgenres also a means for you to switch off everything in this hectic world, to Pause and just listen?
Heavy metal is law, heavy metal is life, our coven of musicians dabbles in all genres and across to others even.
What was the best Album released in 2021 so far in your opinion?
Forever war by black jackal is a blistering hellscape of the truest black and roll ignorant d beat ass kicking motörhead worship ever, Far and above best release give it a listen
What Band or Musiscian did influenced you most in your musicial live?
Zach schottler of skullfist has always been great about giving advice and being a rad dude, of course the elder gods like lemme priest Saxon etc are hugely influential but I’ve got some great pals mentioned already, reach out, most of us musicians aren’t dicks and wouldn’t mind pal’in around
Which Album was your first Metal Album bought of your own money, and why?
I don’t remember the first but I remember how great it felt to be gifted an original unopened pressing of grim reapers ”see you in hell” by Joey Vera for my 30th bday, he had saved from buying as a teen standing in line all day to get a copy, metal has brought me my best friends and best times, helped pull me out of a time where I tried to kill myself a few ways, and is taking me across the world, don’t let anyone tell you to grow up or that metal is lame or dorky, wear your fucking leathers, wear spikes, eat pussy and listen to heavy metal, do drugs in bathrooms and circle pit to sick riffs, tell the normies to suck your balls from behind. Heavy metal forever.
Get away from the music a little. What about hobbies?
I’m an avid reader and painter, also a professional tattooer of almost a decade, feel free to dm anytime about any of these! Several of us also Dj.
If you got one wish…
If I got one wish I’d wish for a million wishes, or enough money build a castle commune in the Black Forest and attract vampires and wizards and live forever on a diet of psychedelics and psychics.
A few words to your Fans out there in Germany and all the Others in the World?
Germany you opened your arms and hearts to us and we can’t wait until our journey brings us on stage for every one of you, we are eternally grateful to raf and all our friends in Europe who are letting us share what we love with so many people
TELL YOUR PROMOTERS THEY ARE POSERS IF THEY DONT BOOK US ON THEIR FESTIVALS!!!
Thanks for the interview RYGHÄR HIGHWIND. Many greetings to all from the Band. Something that is important to me: Stay healthy and be safe!
Thanks for the interview Tobias we wish the winds of fortune at your back where your trails may
