“No Remorse Records” haben einen weiteren Heavy Metal Act im Label. “Wanton Attack” heißen die Schweden, die dort aus Norrköping kommen. Aus der Bandinfo stammen die folgenden Zeilen, die euch die Truppe näherbringt:
Hailing from Norrköping, Sweden, WANTON ATTACK is a newheavy metal force to be reckoned with. The duo, consisting of traditional metal enthusiasts Micael Zetterberg (vocals, drums) and Niklas Holm (guitars, bass), formed in 2019 and is now ready to unleash their self-titled debut album of Arcane Metal upon the world. With roots in Swedish heavy metal and recommended for fans of early Mercyful Fate, Ostrogoth, even John Carpenter, the band boasts a sound that is both obscure and powerful, with well-crafted and memorable songwriting above all else. The album was recorded by Kim Ekvall Lattik and mastered by Patrick W. Engel at Temple of Disharmony. The drums were recorded by Magnus Johnson, who also mixed “Wanton Attack”.
Tobi – Niklas
Hello Niklas from Wanton Attack. My name is Tobi. I run a Facebook page and a webblog. On this page I post reviews of current albums, interviews, band presentations and reports about concerts that I visit with my wheelchair. On the one hand, to tell other wheelchair users how the venue is equipped in terms of accessibility and on the other hand, how to best proceed to get tickets, which is usually not possible with conventional ticket portals.
In the future I will also write about hygiene measures, as this is important for me as a high-risk patient and for my readers too. Of course, I also write about the bands‘ performance. Today I have a few questions for you about your new selftitelt Album „Wanton Attack“.
First of all, I want to ask you, how are you doing right now?
I’m doing pretty well, just got home from work. A bit tired, but ready to answer your questions!
Please introduce yourself and your Band to me and my Followers a little!
The band consists of two members. I’m Niklas and I play guitars and bass in Wanton Attack. I’m also in other bands/projects such as Sordid Blade, Dødsleie and Broken Cross. Micael plays drums and sings in the band. He also plays in the bands Wardenclyffe, Dautha, Illbatting and Aggressive Mutilator. We’re big fans of traditional heavy metal and music in general.
Are you nervous about the 24.09.2021? The Day of your Albumrelease!
I wouldn’t say we’re nervous, but of course we’re eager to see what people think of it. We try not to have high expectations.
How did you connectet with No Remorse Records?
We sent the recording to a bunch of different labels. No Remorse showed interest early on and we felt that they’re the best label for us. They understand this type of music very well and we’re huge fans of many of their releases.
What can we expect from your first Album „Wanton Attack“? Will it be a concept Release?
”Wanton Attack” is our first album. You can expect an album that is rooted in 80s heavy metal first and foremost. We didn’t want a modern sound, maybe that’s a turnoff for some but the sound is exactly what we wanted. We tried to write a diverse album with an obscure touch, but also with a lot of melodies. It’s not a concept album.
What was the Thing that get you inspired for Wanton Attack in 2019?
We formed Wanton Attack in 2019. Micael told me he wanted to start a traditional heavy metal band with influences from bands like Master’s Hammer. I’m not sure if that’s how we sound, regardless it was enough to spark my interest and here we are.
What did you do between founding Wanton Attack and releasing the selftitelt Debut in 2021? Was Wanton Attack a two Men Band from the beginning or did you searched for more Bandmates?
We pretty much just focused on writing good material. Apart from that, we had to record the album in separate sessions which took quite some time. We tried to rehearse with a second guitar player in the beginning, but we came to the conclusion that Wanton Attack works better as a two man unit.
Could you say something to each Song on your upcoming Album to describe it for my followers?
„Demonic Forces Prevail“
Perhaps the most unorthodox track on the album. It’s about how demonic forces can obsess people’s minds.
I guess this is our anthem. It’s about a killer on the loose, prowling the night.
„The Beast Will Be Tamed“
A midtempo song about how evil is lurking inside all of us.
„His Master’s Voice“
A song about magic and mystery. It’s a fast song and probably the most melodic one on the album.
The song deals with how modern technology interferes with human life. It’s a bit more rooted in traditional rock ‘n’ roll compared to the other songs on the album.
This is actually a cover song by the band Commandment from the US. We think they’re an underrated band and it’s a kickass song.
An instrumental track with lots of samples. I think it sounds like John Carpenter’s music a lot.
A favorite track of mine is „Crystal Ball“ and the instrumental Track „Arrogant Humanity“! Do you have a song that you particularly like on „Wanton Attack“?
For me, I’d say that ”His Master’s Voice” and ”Wanton Attack” are the songs I’m most satisfied with.
Which Message is behind „Arrogant Humanity“?
I’m not sure it has a specific message, but personally I get an apocalyptic feeling when listening to it.
At the moment there is „His Master´s Voice“ as Single and Video. Will there be another Single + Video?
No plans at the moment.
How are your plans for the near future of Wanton Attack?
Release the album, write new songs, do merch. We also want to play live when we have a full line-up.
If you could choose a Festival to play with Wanton Attack, which would you choose and why?
Keep It True and Up the Hammers are two festivals we would like to play. They have insane lineups each year, and we think their audiences would appreciate our music.
How did you as deal with the restrictions in the meantime? How much does it restricted you in your working life? I hope you and your Family + a Friends are healthy!
I love traveling, so that is something I haven’t been able to do since the pandemic started. We haven’t been that restricted in our jobs. Of course, the whole thing has affected our lives in many different ways, but overall it could have been a lot worse.
Is Heavy Metal and the Subgenres also a means for you to switch off everything in this hectic world, to Pause and just listen?
I would say so, yes. Both art and music can be seen as a form of escapism.
What was the best Album released in 2021 so far in your opinion?
I like Tyrann – Djävulens Musik a lot. The Century demo was great, too. In terms of reissues, the Scald and Slauter Xstroyes albums come to mind.
What Band or Musiscian did influenced you most in your musicial live?
When it comes to metal, I’d say Iron Maiden, Bathory, (early) Metallica, etc. They’re not necessarily the main influences for Wanton Attack though.
Which Album was your first Metal Album bought of your own money, and why?
I can’t remember the first album, but the first 7” single I bought was Alice Cooper – Poison in 1989. I liked the song and Alice looked really cool on the cover.
Get away from the music a little. What about hobbies?
My biggest hobby is record collecting. I also enjoy retrogaming, watching movies and working out.
If you got one wish…
Eat whatever I want and still stay healthy.
A few words to your Fans out there in Germany and all the Others in the World?
Thanks for the interview. We would love to come and play in Germany.
Thanks for the interview, Niklas from Wanton Attack. Many greetings to all from the Band. Something that is important to me: Stay healthy and be safe!
