„Carchosa“, das ist ein Studioprojekt des Schweden Henrik Nygren aus Malmö. Sein erstes Album benannte er nach seiner Band und released wurde es am 09.06.2018. Am 24.09.2021 wird er sein zweites Werk veröffentlichen, dass auf den Namen „Realms“ getauft wurde. Ich durfte sein neues Album besprechen – die Review kommt wie so häufig nach dem Interview – und auch mit ihm über den neuen Rundling reden.
Hello Henrik Nygren from Carchosa. My name is Tobi. I run a Facebook page and a webblog. On this page I post reviews of current albums, interviews, band presentations and reports about concerts that I visit with my wheelchair. On the one hand, to tell other wheelchair users how the venue is equipped in terms of accessibility and on the other hand, how to best proceed to get tickets, which is usually not possible with conventional ticket portals.
In the future I will also write about hygiene measures, as this is important for me as a high-risk patient and for my readers too. Of course, I also write about the bands‘ performance. Today I have a few questions for you about your new Album „Realms“.
Tobi – Henrik Nygren
First of all, I want to ask you, how are you doing right now?
I’m doing very well thank you.
Please introduce yourself and your Project to me Followers a little!
My name is Henrik Nygren and I am the sole member of the melodic death metal band Carchosa, which I formed in 2012. I wanted to combine my love for melodies and aggressive riffing and try to create something special. I live in the south of Sweden, just outside of Malmö. Me and my girlfriend bought a house a few months back. So the summer has been really busy with moving and finishing up Carchosa’s second album, and I’ve started to build my own studio.
Are you nervous about the 24.09.2021? The Day of your second Release!
I was a bit nervous earlier, but not anymore, seeing the amazing response I’ve received so far.
What can we expect from your second Album „Realms“? Will it be a concept Release?
A musical journey filled with grand-scale epic atmosphere, beautiful melodies and a lot of aggressive riffing. I would say that I’ve stepped up both song and production wise, compared to my first album. No, it’s not a concept release, but some songs have the same lyrical themes.
What was the Thing that get you inpired for Carchosa in 2012?
I hadn’t played in a band for a few years but I was really missing the satisfaction I got, writing music. Since all the people I had in mind starting a new band were busy with other priorities, I thought why not start a one man project.
What did you do between founding Carchosa and releasing the selftitelt Debut in 2018?
I kept busy studying music production since I didn’t have much experience in that area. Writing songs and developing my vocal abilities. This was done on evenings and on weekends since I have an 8 to 5 office job.
Why did you chose to do a „One Man Band“ and not like many Bands with 4 Guys at your side?
I had a problem finding people who had time to put in the effort it requires. And as I considered Carchosa to be a studio project it made more sense not to have other members.
In my opinion „Realms“ ist hat piece more melodic and darker than your Debutalbum. Where would you see the differences, or perhaps the things they got in common.
Yes, I agree. I think the main difference is the production. “Realms” sounds much better than my debut album, and I am especially much more satisfied with the vocals this time. The first album had a bit more thrash metal influences and “Realms” has more death metal influences. But the melodies are prominent on both albums.
Why did you changed the Bandlogo?
I wasn’t that satisfied with the first logo. I did it by myself. And for the new album I thought, why not hire someone, who actually does this for a living.
Could you say something to each Song on your upcoming Album to describe it for my followers?
The album’s fastest, shortest track and the hardest one to play:-).
The lyrics are inspired by the works of H.P. Lovecraft. I just love how the chorus turned out. And the guitar solo by Scott Carstairs is just magical.
„Dawn Of Storms“
One of the more progressive tracks. It has an “ending of the world” vibe to it and the lyrics deal with that as well. The guest vocals by Emi Pellegrino makes this song truly special.
It’s the first song that I finished for the new album, and it’s one of the more straightforward songs, when it comes to the song structure. The lyrics also deal with the end of the world. I’ve been a fan of Andy Gillion for some time and I just knew that his style would suit the song very well.
The title track and the most intense song on the album I would say. I’ve tried to give the song an otherworldly vibe that would go well with the album cover. The lyrics are also inspired by the work of H.P. Lovecraft.
Also very progressive in the structure of the song. The lyrics have the same theme as “Dawn Of Storms” but with a bit more feeling that mankind shall find a way to survive. The guitar solo by Teemu Mäntysaari is just phenomenal.
Maybe the most accessible song on the album. The lyrics deal with social anxiety disorder. The guitar solo by Per Nilsson is pure joy to listen to.
„The Dark Veil“
The album’s longest track. It has a very dark vibe to it, but yet very melodic. The lyrics are a continuation of the lyrics from “Hexes Arcana”.
A favorite track of mine is „Hexes Arcana“ which has a blast, man, you don’t need Botox for your face anymore and „The Dark Veil“! Do you have a song that you particularly like on „Realms“?
I would say it’s a draw between “Dawn Of Storms” and “Hexes Arcana”
What was it to work with Dan Swanö?
It was very easy to work with him. He is a master at what he does and will definitely work with him again.
What if i compare „Realms“ – in parts – with the early „In Flames“ Album „Jester Race“?
I bought that album when it was released and I love it. But I think Carchosa has more similarities with the other bands from the Gothenburg area. Like At the Gates and Eucharist.
How are your plans for the near future of Carchosa?
To see how everything progresses with the new album and then slowly start to come up with ideas and write a new album. I also have another musical project that I want to do something with. So let’s see what happens.
How did you as deal with the restrictions in the meantime? How much does it restricted you in your working life and the work with your Guest Musicians? I hope you and your Family + a Friends are healthy!
My life has been pretty much the same really. All guest musicians did their parts at home and sent me the files.
Is Heavy Metal and the Subgenres also a means for you to switch off everything in this hectic world, to Pause and just listen?
Yes of course, I listen to music every day, not just metal.
What was the best Album released in 2021 so far in your opinion?
Iotunn – Access all worlds
What Band or Musiscian did influenced you most in your musicial live?
Metallica (pre-Black Album)
Which Album was your first Metal Album bought of your own money, and why?
Metallica – Creeping Death / Jump in the Fire EP on vinyl. Early Metallica got me addicted to metal, I’d listen for hours on end.
Get away from the music a little. What about hobbies?
Music is my main hobby. But I also like working out, playing video games, watching movies and tv-series.
If you got one wish…
Hmm, hard question. Maybe that this pandemic would be over, so you could go to concerts and festivals again.
A few words to your Fans out there in Germany and all the Others in the World?
I want to express a huge thank you to all the people who have supported Carchosa in any way. And I hope you enjoy the new album as much as I do.
Thanks for the interview, Henrik. Many greetings to all from the Band. Something that is important to me: Stay healthy and be safe!
Thank you, for a very interesting interview Tobi, and I wish you all the best.
