Tobi – Metal and Me

Pierric – Morgarten

Hello „Pierric“ from „Morgarten“.  My name is Tobi.  I run a Facebook page and a webblog.  On this page I post reviews of current albums, interviews, band presentations and reports about concerts that I visit with my wheelchair.  On the one hand, to tell other wheelchair users how the venue is equipped in terms of accessibility and on the other hand, how to best proceed to get tickets, which is usually not possible with conventional ticket portals.

In the future I will also write about hygiene measures, as this is important for me as a high-risk patient and for my readers too. Of course, I also write about the bands‘ performance.  Today I have a few questions for you about your new Album „Cry oft he Lost“.

First of all, I want to ask you, how are you and your Bandmates doing right now?

We are doing alright!! Difficult times for the live music sector, but we hope it will open soon!

If you meet someone who did not now what kind of Band „Morgarten“ is and what kind of Music you make – what do you tell him?

It’s sometimes difficult to classify us in a particular style, but I would say that we do a mix of black and folk metal, with a lot of symphonic elements, but also some death ones. In live performance, we give a lot of importance to the stage setting and we like to take the audience with us in our medieval universe.

„Cry oft he Lost“ is your second Longplayer how nervous about this release are you and are you still nervous as you were when „Risen to Fight“ saw his first sunrise?

It’s hard to tell if we are nervous. I would say we are extremely excited to be able to share it with as many people as possible! We’ve worked so hard and fine-tuned every detail that I can’t think of anything we could have done better today. We’ll probably be more nervous when it comes to performing it live for the first time.

How did you herd from „Arnold Winkelried“? I searched in Wiki and found not many about him. But the Story with the Lances at the Battle of Sempach is awesome.

It’s part of Swiss folklore, we probably hear about it at school in history classes. When we were thinking about the concept and the story of this album, we thought about this event and we thought that it would be interesting if the hero of our story was not Arnold Winkelried, but one of the warriors who pierces him… But our story is only inspired by this scene, it doesn’t tell the story of this Swiss legend.

The Track “To Victory” was released as first Single. Why did you chose this Song?

It was a good choice first of all because the song is the beginning of the story. It is also of a reasonable length compared to other tracks on the album and more accessible too. And it allowed us to make a very entertaining video :-). So it was a good choice to announce the album.

When you planning your Tour, will you come to Germany as well (if Covid19 is under control).

Of course we hope to play in Germany as well! But as you say it’s complicated with Covid 19 and almost all the festivals postponed their edition keeping the same line-up, so everything is booked until 2023 probably.

Andi, if you MUST chose which is your fav Song of the upcoming Album?

I think that the one we love the most is „Peaceful Soul of the Dying“ because of it’s intensity, but almost 3/4 of the songs are our favourites for different reasons.

About the Artist of your Cover-Artwork: Awesome Cover! How long did he work on it and can i get a signed one? 😊

Thanks a lot! Well I have no idea of the actual time he spent on this one, but the creation process took 3-4 months, until we liked every detail. The expression of the warrior was particularly important and earned us a few email exchanges 🙂

How is it to you to stay in contact with your fans via social media in these pandemic times and to find out what the mood is like in the fans‘ camp?

Having the new album helps us a lot to still have something to share with our audience. I feel that the feelings vary quite a bit between fatality and despair that things will go back to „the way they were“ and excitement and anticipation of seeing each other again for shows. But everybody is over-impatient I think.

How did you deal with the restrictions in the meantime?  How much does it restricted you in your working life? I only get the News from Germany about the Virus, and that is enough for me and my peace of Mind. How about in Switzerland in May/June, 2021?

In Switzerland it was not as extreme as in other countries, but we had to deal with it, let’s say… But we were always able to keep meeting to rehearse. Now things are starting to open up again, we can go to restaurants again and some cultural events are starting to take place. We are not yet at the „moshpit where you can smell the sweat of the metalheads“ stage, but we are still hopeful…

How have you spent your free time under Covid 19 so far?

We live in a beautiful area, so we mainly enjoyed being in nature, as usual.

How was the process to find the Bandname „Morgarten“? Or did it just appears in your Minds and said „Here i am“? 😉

Morgarten refers to a battle in Switzerland in 1315. It sounded good and the history of this battle and the parallels we could draw convinced us.

Do you listen also to other music genres? DJ Bobo is a famous Singer from Switzerland for example 😉

Yes, of course we listen to other kinds of music, but I don’t think we have a DJ Bobo fan in the band… We listen to Celtic music, blues, rock, …

Get away from the music a little. What about hobbies of you and your Bandmates?

Windsurfing, kite surfing, paragliding, trail running, raising ants, beekeeping, spending time with family, …

Do you do „a normal Job“ beside making awesome Metal?

Oh yes, of course haha! We have not chosen the right style of music to make money. Or we are not good enough, maybe 🙂

If yout got one wish…?

get back on stage!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A few words to your Fans out there in Germany and all the Others in the World?

Stay safe and see you soon on the Battfields!

Thanks for the interview, Pierric. Many greetings to all of you. Something that is important to me: Stay healthy and good luck for the Release of your new Album!
