“Beyond The Existence im Interview”

Tobi – Metal and Me

Ikaros – Beyond the Existence

Hello, Ikaros from Beyond The Existence.  My name is Tobi.  I run a Facebook page and a web blog.  On this page, I post reviews of current albums, interviews, band presentations, and reports about concerts that I visit with my wheelchair.  On the one hand, to tell other wheelchair users how the venue is equipped in terms of accessibility and on the other hand, how to best proceed to get tickets, which is usually not possible with conventional ticket portals. But you know that stuff already 😊

In the future, I will also write about hygiene measures, as this is important for me as a high-risk patient and for my readers too. Of course, I also write about the bands‘ performance.  Today I have a few questions for you about your new album „Absolute Zero“.

First of all, I want to ask you, how are you and your Bandmates doing right now?

We are really fine, given that we are with a new line-up now, which is a good thing. New vibes, everybody in a good mood for the music, it’s really exciting for all of us to see what is coming next. We cant wait to play to get on the stage.

And how are you when you think back to the Release of your last „Baby“ Absolute Zero?

We are all very excited about the outcome and the feedback we get from our fans. We think it’s the most iconic album we have made so far and we particularly enjoy the variety of this record which stands out in our opinion.

What can we expect from your album? What is the main thing you sing about?

Well, you can expect a really powerful experience, the songs are very strong with riffs which motivates you, as well as the lyrics, we try to write lyrics that you will feel great singing them, that motivates you as well and makes you want to sing along with the band. The main theme is about life phycology and attitude, or even motivational, not in all the songs, but there is always a nice meaning behind all of them

What is the main difference between „Absolute Zero“ and your last Release „Thoughts Through Imaginations“?

There are functional differences between these two. “Thoughts through imagination” was released after being recorded by a more experienced sound engineer. “Absolute zero” on the other hand has been recorded by us in a home studio. We are very pleased about the way this record sounds because it is has a much better sound quality than the previous one and the way it all worked simpler, better and quicker.

The new tracks are energetic, aggressive, and full of pleasure.  How long did you write to them and how long did it take for them to be ready for our Ears and how much does and do Covid19 restricted you in your working life?

Some songs were already composed 2 years before the album was released, but they existed as a demo version of the songs. The whole process of recording took us 1 and a half year, not because of covid but the songs were changed many times till we find the perfection that they are today. 😜Some songs like “the Air in my lungs” were written during the record process.

Do you have a song that you particularly like on „Absolute Zero“?

All of them

The Cover-Artwork is really awesome. From who was the Idea? I know you made a poll where fans should say what they think about the cover and what they think is behind it. What’s the meaning behind it?

Absolute Zero means that when you reach the bottom line the only way is up but still, there is an absolute zero point in all of us, full of thoughts and reflections, that seems like we have no strength to continue, but everything is temporary, and it’s time to start a new beginning, reconstruction. That’s more or less the image shown on the cover. where you are, how you are, and all your surroundings

How is it in Greece with doing a live show? I actually know nothing about the Covid19 Situation in Greece.

In our opinion, the precautions against the pandemic are a bit exaggerated in our country. Like the whole of Europe, massive gatherings and live shows are strongly prohibited and that holds back the artists to present their work in public. We miss live events, to catch up with people and play our music on stage.

A few words to the fans who definitely can’t wait to hear you live. Are there any plans for a streaming Event?

We cannot find the words to express our anticipation to go back on the stage again and make sure that we will convert this anticipation to a nice bit of upcoming energetic performances. Yes, we are open to discussions for a live streaming event.

How is it to you to stay in contact with your fans via social media in these pandemic times and to find out what the mood is like in the fans‘ camp?

It is always difficult to catch up with fans from all over the world via social media. It is an unpleasant fact that we must go through but it is the best choice we can make. Social media is a valuable tool to keep in contact with fans whom under these circumstances you can’t see otherwise.

How have you spent your Free time under Covid 19 so far?

We do our best. We are all people that enjoy our own company and our friendship and we do several things together besides the band. We go hiking, listen to music, discover new bands and influences, playing video games, cooking, etc. We are all extroverted kinds of persons.

If you could privately go to a concert in this, sorry for the expression, shitty corona pandemic, which one would it be?

I (Ikaros) would very much like to attend a live show of Carcass or Amon Amarth. Jimmy looks forward to the upcoming Sepultura euro tour. He hopes it will take place as planned.

Is Heavy Metal and the Subgenres also a means for you to switch off everything in this hectic world, to Pause and just listen?

We like music in general so yes, music is definitely a means to switch off everything, to put on your earphones and clear up your mind after an exhausting day at work, a means to get away with your problems and thoughts that upset your mood.

Wich Subgenres do you listen to?

Death, Thrash, Melodic death, technical death, metalcore, hardcore mainly. But we are keen on almost every metal subgenre

Get away from the music a little. What about hobbies?

We like to work out much, play video games, extreme sports like roller skating, martial arts.

A few words to your Fans out there in Germany and all the Others in the World?

Germany in particular is one the most iconic countries for its metal tradition. We absolutely love that country not only due to its tradition in producing iconic metal bands we all admire but also due to our close connection with the country. Some of us have relatives in Germany, others know the language and had personal relationships with natives. All in all, we look forward to having our first gig in Germany soon, so we get to know our german fans personally.

Thanks for the interview, Ikaros. Many greetings to all from the Band.  Something that is important to me: Stay healthy and safe, Mate!
