“FireWing im Interview”

Bandlogo

Hello Caio Kehyayan from FireWing.  My name is Tobi.  I run a Facebook page and a webblog.  On this page I post reviews of current albums, interviews, band presentations and reports about concerts that I visit with my wheelchair.  On the one hand, to tell other wheelchair users how the venue is equipped in terms of accessibility and on the other hand, how to best proceed to get tickets, which is usually not possible with conventional ticket portals.

In the future I will also write about hygiene measures, as this is important for me as a high-risk patient and for my readers too. Of course, I also write about the bands‘ performance.  Today I have a few questions for you about your new Album „Resurrection“.

I am happy that I can now do an interview with you, because as your Facebook page was public, I had already tried and wanted to support you. In the end, it’s great that there is now an opportunity to do so.

First of all, I want to ask you, how are you and your Bandmates doing right now?

Hello Tobi, first of all thank you so much fort he opportunity and space to talk about FireWing! We are all doing great and keeping ourselves safe due tot he pandemic. We hope you all in Germany are safe as well!

When did you decide to bring FireWing to life? How did you meet?

So, we have being working on FireWing when I started studying at Berklee College of Music in 2016 when I was only 18 years old. I met the other band members there as well, so basically almost all of us studied and graduated Berklee together! The FireWing concept and idea was born a year before that in 2015 when I was still living in Brazil. Me and Airton Araujo (singer) started writing the first songs together.

How would you describe FireWing to someone, who doesn´t know you allready?

FireWing is a conceptual symphonic metal band that blends influences from power & prog metal, and classical music with a film scoring approach to climatize the storytelling of our debut record “Resurrection”!

Where do you get the inspiration for your songs for this awesome Journey of Ember and Vishap from?

Ember & Vishap are the two main characters of the story and they represent creation itself and the eternal fight between darkness and hope. Their fight influences how all life forms live in this new universe we are creating. We plan to keep the same concept and storyline for the other records introducing new characters but keeping the same essence from Ember & Vishap.

What can we expect from your Debut album?

Expect it to be a immersive journey from begging to end because all the 14 songs are actually all connected and we consider it to be one piece of music instead of being 14 isolated tracks. The record is full of energy, songs that will bring all your emotions to the max level and I guarantee it will make you feel a lot of different feelings and vibes!

How was it to work with the great guest musicians who were allowed to participate in Resurrection?

It was amazing, we were fortunate to have had all those guest performances because they enhance the experience a lot!

You want to give symphonic metal a makeover. How can the metalheads imagine that?

So basically, the key factor that makes our symphonic metal approach different form the others are the relation between the guitar arrangements and orchestral arrangements. Normally in the symphonic metal bands, the guitar is only supporting the harmony of the orchestral instruments. However, on Resurrection, the guitar riffs normally work as ostinatos for the orchestration to re-harmonized and create new textures all around the other band instruments. Our sound is full of complex counterpoint, both harmonically and rhythmically.

The new tracks are full of Energy, epic Moments and Power.  How long did you write to them and how long did it take for them to be ready for our Ears?

The writing process happened from 2015 – 2017 and the recording/mixing and mastering happened in between 2017-2020. Because of the pandemic we waiting over an year to be able to release the record for you guys!

Do you have a song or a Part of the Story that you particularly like on „Resurrection“?

On the music video of Time Machine, it is the part of the concept and story that I like the most! Because it talks about the concept of “time” and loosing someone special to you. It is a song that has a heart breaking vibe ib the begging, but towards the end, there is always hope in the future to find a solution.

The Cover-Artwork is absolte fucking great. From who was the Idea for it?

The idea was a combination of my concept and Junki Sakuraba, the artists that made all the artwork from Resurrection.

Are there any plans about a streaming Event, because Covid19 will not let you play live?

We are planning to make a lot of videos for YouTube to keep creating content for the fans and maybe a few virtual performances 🙂

How is it to you to stay in contact with your fans via social media in these pandemic times and to find out what the mood is like in the fans‘ camp?

Our social media platforms are @firewingofficial (Instagram & Facebook).

How did you as deal with the restrictions in the meantime?  How much does it restricted you in your working life?

We all have being able to work virtually but in the beginning of the pandemic, it was hard to adjust everything to this new world we live in.

How have you spent your Free time under Covid 19 so far?

Writing a lot of new songs and producing for the upcoming records of FireWing! Stay tuned!

If you could privately go to a concert in this, sorry for the expression, shitty corona pandemic, which one would it be?

I would love to go see Kamelot life! They are a big influence for our music!

Is Heavy Metal and the Subgenres also a means for you to switch off everything in this hectic world, to Pause and just listen?

Heavy Metal in general is a super energetic type of music that I believe that gives us energy and hope to keep pushing during these hard times.

Wich Subgenres do you listen to?

I listen to power metal, prog metal, hard rock, trash metal… basically almost everything from the genre.

Get away from the music a little. What about hobbies?

I am also a bodybuilder and have a super healthy lifestyle besides being a musician.

Do you have a “guilty pleasure“, something that you hide from others because they don’t believe it anyway? For example, I like to watch Trash TV every now and then, just to switch off my mind and relax.

I like to stay hours watching Youtube channels!

A few words to your Fans out there in Germany and all the Others in the World?

Thank you all for the great reception and live you all have being sending us! We are super motivated to keep releasing new music and content for all our fans! Stay safe and see you guys soon on the stage! Cheers, Caio Kehyayan

Thanks for the interview, Caio. Many greetings to all from the Band.  Something that is important to me: Stay healthy and good luck for the Release of your Album!
