„Michael B. Dahl von Artillery im Interview“

Am 07.05.2021 kommt das brandneue Album „X“ von „Artillery“ über Metal Blade Records in die Läden. Ich habe mit Frontmann Michael Bastholm Dahl über die neue Platte, Livestreams und einiges anderes gesprochen und freue mich, euch dieses Interview noch vor Albumrelease präsentieren zu dürfen! 🙂

Michael – Artillery

Tobi – Metal and Me

Hello Michael from „Artillery“.  My name is Tobi.  I run a Facebook page and a webblog.  On this page I post reviews of current albums, interviews, band presentations and reports about concerts that I visit with my wheelchair.  On the one hand, to tell other wheelchair users how the venue is equipped in terms of accessibility and on the other hand, how to best proceed to get tickets, which is usually not possible with conventional ticket portals.

In the future I will also write about hygiene measures, as this is important for me as a high-risk patient and for my readers too. Of course, I also write about the bands‘ performance.  Today I have a few questions for you about your new Album „X“.

First of all, I want to ask you, how are you and your Bandmates doing right now?

Hi Toby, very nice to meet you! Artillery is doing great these days we are eagerly awaiting the release of our new album and we are very much looking forward to garden play to all of you guys once again!

And how are you when you think about May 07th, 2021?

Well, it is the release date of our new album so I can only say that I’m very happy about that! We have been working on this album for quite some time right now so we can’t wait for you guys to hear it.

„Turn Up The Rage“ and „In Thrash We Trust“ were the first singles to release from your new Studioalbum.  Why this two songs?

I guess both of them represented the diversity of the new album. And also they are quite direct and in your face and I think that’s what you need when you have to release two singles.

I reviewed „X“ allready and was entertainend as fuck (9/10). I got a description of the Genre your „placed in“ and that was „Thrash“. But, in my opinion, there is a big portion of Melodic in „X“ and the most of the Songs. What are your thoughts about putting „X“ into „only“ Thrash?

I quite agree with you, that I don’t think that we are just or simply thrash metal. I also think, that we got a lot of other genres under our belt. If I have to put a label on us, I think I had just simply would describe us as metal with elements of fresh, but also old school heavy metal and 70’s rock.

Did you have a Song which you like the most on „X“?

No, not really, I guess I’m way too based right now to answer that question (laughs).

I know many Musicians don´t like streaming live their Songs, and read somewhere that you didn’t like it too. But, i think, many Fans would like to hear the new Songs live, even if it’s only a stream. Would you think about a Stream perhaps?

Well, we have already played two streaming concerts so yes that’s a thing that we have been doing. I don’t mind playing streaming concerts but the interaction between the fans and you is such a big part of playing live. But, if we do not have any other choice we’d rather play streaming concerts than none at all.

Is there a Tour planned allready?

Well, we do have a lot of things planned, but right now it is hard to say how much will actually really happen. We will try as hard as we can to make as many live concerts happen as possible.

How are you all actually after a show with all your tracks? How long do you need to regenerate?

Well, obviously you are a bit tired, sweaty and exhausted, but I always feel revigorated as well. you might put a lot of yourself into a concert but the people who are attending the show give you a lot of energy as well. Most of the time I just need to relax and take care of my voice. Usually I’m ready to do another concert the day after.

How is it to you to stay in contact with your fans via social media in these pandemic times and to find out what the mood is like in the fans‘ camp?

I don’t know if you’re actually you really can. The best you can do, I suppose is just simply show that you are still there and that you are maybe trying to communicate some of the frustration that you feel as well in these pandemic times. We are all in the same boat, so I suppose the best way to communicate is just simply by being available and ready to talk whenever anyone wants to do that .

How did you deal with the restrictions in the meantime?  How much does it restricted you in your working life? I only get the News from Germany about the Virus, and that is enough for me and my peace of Mind. How about Denmark in May, 2021?

Well, as of May 2021 in Denmark, we are opening up a little bit. I think that the only way that you can deal with these restrictions is just to simply abide by them and then adjust to them. I guess that if you are working against the restrictions and the advice you are given, it can only lead to a lot of frustration and problems. Working wise you have to do the same I suppose.

How have you spent your free time under Covid 19 so far?

Well, I really love to read so I have had the opportunity to read a bit more than I usually do.

If you could privately go to a concert in this, sorry for the expression, shitty corona pandemic, which one would it be?

Then I suppose it should be a very visual show. I really like Dimmu Borgir so perhaps a concert with them.

Is Heavy Metal and the Subgenres also a means for you to switch off everything in this hectic world, to Pause and just listen?

Yes, heavy metal is still doing the same thing for me as it did when I was young. it lets you blow off some steam and makes you relax.

Get away from the music a little. What about hobbies?

My hobbies are: Books, computer games both old and new, movies, sitcoms and special brew beers.

You are a Teacher, i saw on FB. I was teaching too, for about 10years. It was a awesome time! What kind of Kids do you teach and do they know, that you sing at „Artillery“ – perhaps we get a whole Generation of Metal from Denmark. The „New Wave of danish Heavy Metal“! 😊

A new wave of Danish heavy metal sounds good to me! Actually, I teach adults. I really like teaching as well but I don’t think that my students are aware of the fact that I sing in Artillery.

If we were on danish Metal. When you take a look at my Music Collection you’ll find lots of Bands from Scandinavia – what is this with Scandinavia and the awesome Talent for making great Heavy Metal Music in all Subgenres?

Well, first of all I think that Germany is just as great as Scandinavia in producing and releasing awesome heavy metal music. But I think that the Scandinavians do like their heavy metal a lot and I think that there’s a good vibe going on in regards of making diverse quality metal music.

What else do you like when you not teach your Pupils or make awesome Music with your Bandmates?

I really like to spend time with my friends and family. Nice long walks in nature and trying out new cuisines.

If yout got one wish…?

If I had just one wish, I would wish a long, happy life for my son with all the love, care and good things that he may dream of and need .

A few words to your Fans out there in Germany and all the Others in the World?

First of all a huge thank you for just simply still being there for us. It means the world for us to know that you are still listening to our music and that you still write to us and give us words of encouragement. you should all know that we are very much looking forward to seeing all of you spending time with you have a nice talk with you maybe a laugh and a beer, hopefully as soon as possible.

Thanks for the interview, Michael and for the great Music you make with your Mates. Many greetings to all from the Band.  I hope we meet eachother on the Road and have a beer or two. Something that is important to me: Stay healthy and good luck for the Release of your awesome Album!
