„Against Evil im Interview“

Albumcover

Shasank – Against Evil

Tobi – Metal and Me

Hello „Shasank“ from Against Evil.  My name is Tobi.  I run a Facebook page and a webblog.  On this page I post reviews of current albums, interviews, band presentations and reports about concerts that I visit with my wheelchair.  On the one hand, to tell other wheelchair users how the venue is equipped in terms of accessibility and on the other hand, how to best proceed to get tickets, which is usually not possible with conventional ticket portals.

In the future I will also write about hygiene measures, as this is important for me as a high-risk patient and for my readers too. Of course, I also write about the bands‘ performance.  Today I have a few questions for you about your new Album „End Of The Line“.

First of all, I want to ask you, how are you and your Bandmates doing right now?

Hello Tobi. My name is Shasank and i am the rhythm/lead guitarist and songwriter in Against Evil. We are doing great. Hope you are doing well too.

How would you describe „Against Evil“ to a Metalhead who doesn´t know you?

I would describe “Against Evil“ as a heavy metal band with a mix of power metal, speed metal and thrash metal with a modern sound. Or, “Fist pumping, bone crushing, adrenaline inducing heavy metal!“ as we like to call it!

And how are you when you think back to May 14th, 2021?

You mean 2020? I think we are in a much better situation compared to last year where we were stuck at home due to the global pandemic. Now, we’ve got a new album coming out next month, so we are really excited and looking forward to the release.

„The Sound Of Violence“ and „End Of The Line“ were two singles to release from your new Studioalbum.  Why this songs?

We picked these two because we think they give a good impression about the overall sound and direction of the entire album.

What can we expect from your third Metal-Thunderstorm from India?

You can expect 9 kickass, balls to the wall heavy metal songs that are guranteed to pump your fists full of adrenaline and make your necks sore from all the headbanging! It’s defienetely our best work yet, and we hope you like it as much as we do!

What is the main difference between „End Of The Line“ and your last Release?

It’s pretty much the same heavy metal sound that you have heard on our earlier releases. The only difference you may notice is in the vocals. Since the songs on the new album are a lot heavier compared to our earlier releases, we had to match that by making the vocals a lot grittier and heavier. The end result turned out great.

The new tracks are energetic, heavy as fuck and powerfull.  How long did you write to them and how long did it take for them to be ready for our Ears?

We wrote and recorded this album in two parts. The first 5 songs were written between 2019-2020. Our original plan was to release these 5 songs as an EP during summer 2020. We recorded these songs and got them mixed, mastered and ready, but couldnt release it due of the pandemic. Since we had a lot of time during the lockdown, we decided to write more songs and make the EP into a full-length album. So, we wrote songs 6-8 between July-November 2020 and recorded them in January this year.

Do you have a song that you particularly like on „End Of The Line“?

It’s really difficult to pick a favorite song from this album. Every song kicks ass in my opinion and you will find out for yourself when you listen to the full album!

The Cover-Artwork is great. From who was the Idea?

As you may already know, we are our own mascots and you can see us on our album covers fighting zombies and riding to battle with the king. This time, our vocalist/rhythm guitarist Sravan had an idea about the four of us getting executed on electric chairs. I liked the idea a lot and wrote the song “End of the Line“ which matched perfectly with the cover artwork. We presented the idea to our artist “All Things Rotten“ from Croatia and he did an excellent job as always.

A few words to the fans who definitely can’t wait to hear you live. Are there any plans about a streaming Event?

Thanks a lot to our fans for all the love and support, especially with the new album. You are only reason we keep doing what we do best and we love you all and can’t wait to get back on stage and meet you all again. Right now, we don’t have any plans of doing a streaming event.

How is it to you to stay in contact with your fans via social media in these pandemic times and to find out what the mood is like in the fans‘ camp?

Yes. We stay in contact with our fans via social media, emails and Whatsapp. We also have some awesome fan club groups on Facebook where we all post our updates and stay in touch frequently. Right now, i think everyone is excited for the new album.

When you think about 2019 and your Tour across Germany, Austria and Switzerland, what are the main things you and the Band will remeber all of your Life?

It was a life changing experience for us all. It was a tour that brought a lot of people together with the crowd funding campaign and showed the world what a group of passionate metalheads can accomplish. We had a great time meeting all our friends, fans and playing our hearts out to them. We can’t wait to do it all again!

What do you think about reTOURning to GER, AUT, SUI?

We had a tour planned during November 2020 which got cancelled due to the pandemic. We are trying to re-schedule those dates to later this year. So, lets hope things settle down by then so that we can go back and do what we do best.

How did you as deal with the restrictions in the meantime?  How much does it restricted you in your working life?

It was a pain in the ass to be stuck at home! But, it was for the best and now we have gotten used to working from home and going out only for essentials. There were not many restrictions to our working lifes but, it did affect the band and our plans entirely.

How have you spent your Free time under Covid 19 so far?

We spent the most part of 2020 writing and recording the new album and spending time with our family. Right now, we are busy promoting the new album the best way possible.

If you could privately go to a concert in this, sorry for the expression, shitty corona pandemic, which one would it be?

I think i would rather like to hit the stage and play our new songs than go and watch another band perform.

Is Heavy Metal and the Subgenres also a means for you to switch off everything in this hectic world, to Pause and just listen?

Yeah. Sometimes i really like to stop everything and just listen to metal. It’s like recharging a battery!

Wich Subgenres do you listen to?

I like traditional heavy metal. I grew up listening to bands such as Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Accept, Dio etc etc. I also like Thrash Metal a lot and Megadeth is my all time favourite band.

Get away from the music a little. What about hobbies?

I have been a gamer since i was a kid and im addicted to playing video games. I also like watching movies and shows on Netflix, etc.

A few words to your Fans out there in Germany and all the Others in the World?

Thanks a lot for all your love and support! We can’t wait to meet each and everyone of you once again. Our new album “End of the Line“ is our gift to you and we hope you like is as much as we do. Until then, please take care and stay safe. Together, im sure we will get through these rough times with the power of heavy metal!

Thanks for the interview, „Shasank“. Many greetings to all of the Band.  Something that is important to me: Stay healthy and good luck for the success of your new Album!

Thanks a lot for taking the time to do this interview. Please take care of yourself and don’t forget to blast the new album when it releases on May 14th. Cheers!
