Tobi | Metal and Me

Edwin Premberg | Metalite

Hello Edwin .  My name is Tobi.  I run a Facebook page and a webblog.  On this page I post reviews of current albums, interviews, band presentations and reports about concerts that I visit with my wheelchair.  On the one hand, to tell other wheelchair users how the venue is equipped in terms of accessibility and on the other hand, how to best proceed to get tickets, which is usually not possible with conventional ticket portals.

In the future I will also write about hygiene measures, as this is important for me as a high-risk patient and for my readers too. Of course, I also write about the bands‘ performance.  Today I have a few questions for you about your new Album „A Virtual World“.

First of all, I want to ask you, how are you and your Bandmates doing right now?

Hi! Everyone’s fine thank you. All healthy 😊

How do you explain „Metalite“ to somebody that didn´t know you at this time?

I would just say that we play melodic modern metal. Many want to place our genre in a specific box but that’s kind of hard for them. I have heard a lot of different genres that they have come up with like euro metal, Schlager metal, pop metal etc. It’s really cool that we have come up with a style that’s hard to compare 😊

How are you when you think about March 26th, 2021?

Mmmmmm the release day! We are feeling great! After all the hard work behind this album we are ready for release, we are soooo excited!

„Peacekeepers“, „A Virtual World“ and „Cloud Connected“ were the first singles to release from your new Studioalbum.  Why this three songs?

I think there are different styles. Peacekeepers is a song that sounds a little harder then the rest of the Metalite songs. A Virtual World also different because its our fastest song ever and to round the single releases we chose Cloud Connected which is a traditional Metalite song with all the elements we like and use a lot.

What can we expect from your new album?

You can expect a high quality sounding album, melodic burst of memorable songs that will stuck in your head for a while. Really positive and uplifting songs that everybody need in these hard times.

What is the main difference between „A Virtual World“ and your last Release „Biomechanicals“?

A virtual world is more of everything! More harmonies, more riff, more keyboards, more samples, more effects blended and mixed with passion! If you like how the earlier albums sound you will definitely like this one.

The new tracks are energetic, mordern and with many Pop/Techno Elements.  How long did you write to them and how long did it take for them to be ready for our Ears?

It took us about half a year to write and record the songs. For mixing it take some weeks before we can listen to the final master. Then CDs will be produced and vinyls of course.

„Modern Melodic Metal“ divides the metal community time and time again. How do you respond to the critics who say it is „not Metal“, but would rather go in the direction of Pop Music?

I think it’s kind of funny that people want to put all music into genres. Genres that sometimes dont even exist. My vision was to be a bridge form the metal community to the pop/dance people and vice versa. We have succeeded and thats awesome! I like to mix genres and this mix is really a success.

Do you have a song that you particularly like on „A Virtual World“?

I love ”Talisman”! Really melodic and very mysterious. Classic Metalite sounding.

The Cover-Artwork is really awesome. From who was the Idea?

I had this idea in my head and Jan Yrlund from Darkgrove Design made it real. I got some influences from the Sci-Fi movie by Spielberg ”Ready Player One”. It’s really a great movie that matches the subjects and music for Metalite.

How are you all actually after a show with all your tracks? How long do you need to regenerate?

The energy that you let loose on this shows are really incredible, just like marathon! Afterwards there are sooo good to just chill with fans, sign merch and just hang out. It’s really my favorite thing. We dont need so much time to reload but its so nice to have this time with the band and fans just after the show.

A few words to the fans who definitely can’t wait to hear you live. Are there any plans about a streaming Event?

We dont have any plans for streaming but we are planning some shows in Europe late 2021. Well see if we are able to play them. Restrictions change from day to day. It’s really hard to plan right now.

How is it to you to stay in contact with your fans via social media in these pandemic times and to find out what the mood is like in the fans‘ camp?

We try to communicate with the fans as much as we can through our social platforms. It’s the only way to keep them up to date what’s happening in the Metalite camp. It’s a really good way to stay in touch with everyone.

How did you as deal with the restrictions in the meantime?  How much does it restricted you in your working life?

In Sweden there are some restrictions but we have never had a full lockdown. For me personally it doesn’t affect me so much but for some the restrictions are a tragedy. I try to spend my time write music, record new stuff and hang out with my family.

How have you spent your Free time under Covid 19 so far?

Many hours in the studio but also with family and my nearest friends.

If you could privately go to a concert in this, sorry for the expression, shitty corona pandemic, which one would it be?

I really want to go to Sweden Rock Festival in June but I think it’s impossible.

Is Heavy Metal and the Subgenres also a means for you to switch off everything in this hectic world, to Pause and just listen?

Yes, of course! Good music always heals your soul when you are in hard times.

Wich Subgenres do you listen to?

Most Melodic, symphonic, melodic death genres..

Get away from the music a little. What about hobbies?

Music is my hobby and life! Haha! But also meet family and friends.
